Winter, a time when the veil between color and monochrome
is naturally thin. A time when shape, tonal depth, texture
and detail are emphasized through the natural relationships
of highlight and shadow.
A fresh snowfall creates a white canvas, awaiting the
stroke of a brush. The stark contrast of black tree
branches against a white backdrop exists for only a
fraction of time, creating an otherworldly landscape.
In this series of images I use a narrow tonal range to
create a sense of isolation and also to illustrate the
silence that occurs when the falling snow muffles out the
sound of the world around me.
